FAQs
What are pastel paintings?
+
Pastel crayon is a kind of chalk marker applied to special pastel paper. You can draw with it in a painterly way. This is why I refer to it as a pastel painting.
The medium was very popular in the 18th century and was used for portrait paintings because of their fresh colours that are preserved and do not yellow.
The finished pastel is sprayed again with a fixative varnish.
